Mary Lunsford's Obituary
Mary Lunsford, a long-time resident of Hallsville, TX, died Friday the 12th of February at her home with family watching over her.
Born in 1931 in Kauai, Hawaii, Mary attended business college and worked for an insurance agency. She met her husband of 61 years in Honolulu, Hawaii while roller-skating as he served in the Navy. During their time together in Hawaii, Sammy and Mary enjoyed all things outdoors. They frequently went sightseeing and spent time together at Waikiki beach.
Mary and Sammy were married on July 24, 1954. At that time, Mary dedicated herself to her family as a devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker. Her passions and talents were many including golf, in which she was a competitive player and local champion. She also enjoyed painting and was an avid sports fan. She kept her mind sharp by completing crossword puzzles; often in pen.
Mary is preceded in death by her father and mother, Matsuju and Kama Iha. She is survived by her husband, Sammy Lunsford of Hallsville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sue Lunsford of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Lunsford of Harlingen; son, Kelly Lunsford of Longview; son and partner, Timmy Lunsford and James Saenz of Austin; four granddaughters, Stacey Scott, Krystal Lunsford, Alicia Still, and Ali Lunsford; and three great-granddaughters, all of whom brought her great joy in life.
The pallbearers will be James Saenz, Louie Lunsford, Larry Lunsford, Donnie Waldrop, Brad Scott and Tommy Moore.
The family wishes to give a heart-felt thank you to Heart’sWay Hospice and Dr. Sreeman Jampana for their wonderful care of Mary during her extended illness.
