Mary Kathleen Kubricht's Obituary
Mary Kathleen Kubricht, age 71, passed away February 23, 2019. She was born in Sunnyside, Washington on July 23, 1947 to John and Miriam Vimont. Her father was a Free Methodist pastor and moved the family to Macon, Georgia where Mary attended elementary school and then to Waynesville, North Carolina, where Mary graduated from high school. As a child Mary trusted in Jesus Christ as her Savior and was always committed to Bible study and prayer.
Mary attended Greenville University in Illinois and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Spanish. There she met Andrew Paul Kubricht; they were married on June 7, 1969 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Following graduation and marriage, Mary taught four years in Ohio. She and her husband moved to Longview, Texas in 1974 where she reared 3 children: Stefan, Alyssa, and Kathleen. She received a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at Tyler. She taught at School for Little Children, the Longview Independent School District, and Oak Forest Montessori School.
Mary was an active member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and served in many capacities. She was particularly committed to serving on the church’s benevolence team trying to help hurting people in Longview with both their spiritual and material needs. She had a passion for helping people around the world, particularly those in war-torn countries and disaster-stricken areas. After retirement she also served on mission teams to Austria and Slovenia.
Throughout her life Mary was committed to loving and serving her family. Her husband, siblings, children, and grandchildren loved her immensely and will miss her greatly. They will cherish their many fond memories of her. She was a caring woman with many friends all over the world.
Over the last two years, Mary heartily battled a cancer that she had formerly beaten in 1993. She was even blessed by having one of her students serve as her nurse when she first entered the hospital in her recent sickness. Mary passed into glory on February 23, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Janice Vimont, and brother, John Vimont. She is survived by her husband and four brothers: Burton Vimont, Jim Vimont, Delmer Vimont, and Paul Vimont. She is the mother of Stefan Kubricht, Alyssa Grant (husband Jason), and Kathleen Vogel (husband Lee). She is the grandmother of Ella Grant, Vivian Grant, Andrew Grant, Beatrice Grant, and Benji Vogel.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Oakland Heights Baptist Church Monday, March 4th at 2:00 PM. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home.
