Mrs. Mary Katherine Ferrell's Obituary
Mary Katherine Ferrell passed away on December 1, 2022, at 3:25 p.m. She is survived by her loving daughter, Ashley Nicole Ferrell, of Longview, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, Ryan Cole and Heather Lynn Ferrell, and their two children, of Elysian Fields, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Frejo and his wife, Michelle of Yukon, Oklahoma; her sister, Teresa McKinley and her husband, Floyd, of Moore, Oklahoma; her sister-in-law, Joanna Ferrell Jewett, who lives in Arp, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 26, 1956. She was raised in Moore, Oklahoma and attended Moore High School until she graduated in 1974. She went on to attend the University of Oklahoma and wanted to pursue a career in medicine, but also worked a local retail job in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
That’s where she met the love of her life, John. They married March 15, 1980 in Moore, Oklahoma and eventually they lived in Texarkana. The following year they moved to Kilgore, Texas where they stayed through the first years of their daughter’s life, and then Mary began to work at Longview Regional Hospital. Mary took pride in her profession, and as her expertise grew, often trained younger nurses in Labor and Delivery. John and Mary moved to Longview in 2010, and they joined the Longview EPC. There, Mary found a new church home and some very good friends. Even though John preceded her in death in 2015, Mary continued to work at Longview Regional Hospital for a total of 35 years. She even continued to work when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, until her partial retirement earlier this year, when she took more time to celebrate her two grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Christus Health and the Texas Oncology staff for all of their dedicated care and support during the time of illness.
Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home of Longview beginning at 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays, December 6. A memorial service will be held at the Longview EPC, on Wednesday at 2 p.m., followed by a private family burial at New Colony Cemetery in Linden, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Longview EPC in Mary’s name, to the Susan G. Komen foundation, or a similar charity.
