Mary Eva White's Obituary
Mary Eva White went to be with her Lord on October 18, 2012 at the age of 93 after a short illness.
She was born March 8, 1919 in Italy, Texas to R. Frank and Johnnie Ella Underwood. She was one of 7 children. Eva came to know the Lord at an early age and served him all the days of her life. Eva grew up in Carthage where her father owned and operated a cotton gin. While in high school she was chosen to be football sweetheart. She attended Dodd College in Shreveport and East Texas State College in Commerce. While living in Commerce she met her beloved husband Edwin Cole White, the love of her life. They married in 1939 in Carthage, Texas and celebrated 69 wonderful years of marriage before Ed died in 2008. After their marriage they moved to Jacksonville, Texas and operated a shoe store. After Ed enlisted in the Army Air Corps, Eva worked as a riveter in an aircraft plant during World War II. At the end of the war, Ed resumed employment with Nabisco and they moved to San Angelo, Texas where their son R. Dean and their daughter, Cynthia Cindi were born. Eva and Ed moved to Amarillo in 1952 where they worked in their church and the Amarillo Tennis Club. Eva went back to college when she was 45, became certified as a dental assistant and worked in a dental office until she retired.
Upon retirement Eva and Ed moved to Lake Cherokee to enjoy fishing, bridge, golf, traveling the world, and playing with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were very involved in their church, Trinity Baptist Church in Lakeport, where they began a thriving couples Sunday School class. Eva was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining. She especially loved having a big crowd of family or friends over for fried fish freshly caught out of the lake.
Eva was a devoted wife, loving mother, selfless grandmother and true friend to all who knew her. The following scripture describes her life. Proverbs 31: 28-30 "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."
Eva is survived by her children, Dr. Dean White and wife Vickie of Granbury; daughter Cindi Christian and husband Larry of Longview; five grandchildren, Shelley Christian Auer of Houston; Jen Biddle and husband Ryan and great-granddaughter and name sake, Eva of Austin; Lindsay Hodges and husband Bryan and great-granddaughters Avery and Emerson of Roanoke; Clark Christian and wife Jenna and great-grandson Jack of Nashville, Tennessee; Shannon Cole Davidson and husband Scott and great-grandsons Lochlan and Liam of Austin; and sisters Evelyn Click of Springvale, Maine, Louise Windam of Carthage, Lucille Pixler of Round Rock and Wanda Wallace of Longview; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is very grateful for the loving concern showered on her by her church, friends, and devoted sitters, especially Becky Moore. The family is also thankful to the staffs of Hawkins Creek Assisted Living and Longview Regional Medical Center for their excellent care. Visitation will be held Friday, October 19 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Rader Funeral Home. Services will be in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview, by Ross Law and family members at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Internment will be in Rosewood Park in Longview.
