Mary E. Orr
Funeral services for Mary E. Orr, 89, of Longview will be held 10 AM Wednesday March 2, 2011 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Reverend Rita Sims and Reverend Joe Orr officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilmer City Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Orr passed away Sunday February 27, 2011 in Longview.
Mrs. Mary Orr was born on May 8, 1921 in Upshur County to Nannie Bicknell Hale and Bose Hale. She had been a resident of Longview since 1969, moving from Gladewater, where she was very active in the First Methodist Church with their youth work. She was also very involved in all areas of the PTA for the Gladewater Public School System from 1958-1968 having been given a Texas Life Membership. She was a member of Winterfield United Methodist Church for the last twelve years and prior to that she was a member at Wesley United Methodist Church since 1969.
Mrs. Orr was a retired bookkeeper for Lee Killingsworth, Independent Oil Operator, after 23 years of service.
Mrs. Orr was preceded in death by her husband, Orvis W. Orr and son, Michael W. Orr. Also preceding her in death were her parents, sisters, Selma Mae Thompson, Callie Elizabeth Parsons, and brother Bosie E. Hale.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Michael J. Dawson, three granddaughters, Michelle, Sally and husband Blaine Clarke, Amanda and husband Matthew Graham, and her grandson Michael David Bynum and wife Tiffany and seven great-grandchildren, along with several other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday March 1, 2011 from 6-8 pm.
