Martha Ann Routh Thomas' Obituary
Funeral services for Martha Ann Routh Thomas, 84, of Longview will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
She was born November 10, 1933, in Greenville, TX to Horace and Annie Routh. Martha was an excellent wife and mother and was one of the best cooks in Gregg County. When she baked cookies, the neighborhood kids came for them. She was known as the “Cookie Lady”.
Martha was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and loved the Lord. She acquired her mother’s leading and read her Bible daily. She helped teach small children.
She attended East Texas Baptist College in the early 1950’s and had to drop out after 2 or 3 years and moved back to Greenville to care for her mother after her the death of her father.
She and her husband were married in the Pastor’s study of the First Baptist Church in Greenville, TX on April 24, 1959. The moved to Longview in May of 1959 and began a sweet life together. After several years a son was born into the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Norman Thomas and son Paul David Thomas of Longview. Numerous nieces and nephews and cousins from Alabama to California.
