Martha Richter's Obituary
Memorial services for Martha Richter, 102, of Henderson, will be 2 PM Saturday in the First Christian Church with Reverend Phil Jones officiating. Services under the direction of Rader Funeral Home, Longview.
Interment will be in Spofford, NH on August 10, 2003.
Mrs. Richter died Saturday, June 7, in a local nursing home.
A native of Germany, she was born September 2, 1900 to Josef and Maria Masur Haase. She immigrated to the US in 1921 and settled in Hebron, Nebraska, with relatives for several years where she cooked for a local hospital. Returning to Germany in 1929, she met her husband Fritz Richter. Upon their return to the US, they settled in New York City. Both of their names are inscribed on the memorial at Ellis Island. In 1939 they bought an old farm, which they rebuilt into a tourist home and called it The Erbhof, in Spofford, NH, with a beautiful view of Lake Spofford and the Green Mountains of Vermont. She was well known for her delicious German meals and her kind and gentle spirit. After her husband?s death in 1974, she spent 6 months each year in Longview with her daughter and family. In recent years she has lived in Longview. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Longview, and the Cornerstone Class.
Mrs. Richter was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Amanda Ubben, a great granddaughter: Ashley Richter and four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her children: Fritz Richter, Jr. and wife Shirley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Siegfried Richter, Sr. and wife Margritt of Spofford, NH, Annamaria Shepherd and husband Rick of Henderson and George Beverst of Detroit Michigan. Grandchildren: Fritz Richter III of Nashville, TN, Arthur Richter and wife PK of Baton Rouge, LA, Siegfried Richter, Jr., and wife Yelena of Cedar Knoll, NJ, Frank Richter and wife Barbara of Keene, NH, Alicia Wilson and husband Jay of Hague, NY, Benjamin Shepherd and wife Jacquelyn of Lewisville, TX, Leslie Suarez and husband Alfredo of Longview, Brian Beverst, Daniel Beverst and Gloria DeCoste of Detroit MI. Great Grandchildren: Kathryn, Allison, Kendell, Amanda, Caroline, Matthew, Joshua, Grace, Jack, Ingrid, Ivan, Vladislav, Nicholas, Jaqueline, Grant, Caroline and Claire and a number of nieces and nephews.
