Martha Ann Glasgow's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Martha Ann Glasgow of Kilgore, Texas. She passed on September 14, 2024, at the age of 72 years old, after fighting a lengthy battle with cancer. Martha was born in Dallas, Texas on April 9, 1952, the daughter of Elbert and LaVoyce Thornton. Martha graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School in 1970. She married the love of her life, John D. Glasgow, May 30, 1986. They became members of First Baptist Church of Longview and were dedicated servants to the church. Martha sang in the choir and played various instruments such as flute, violin, hand bells, and piano. She and John dedicated their Sunday afternoons ministering at Hillside Village apartments. Martha had a beautiful singing voice, she would sing hymns and John would preach. Hillside Ministry was an illustration of how John and Martha have spent their lives in serving our lord.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and LaVoyce Thornton, her brother Ben Thornton, her sister Mary Vaughn, her nephew Shaun Thornton, and her great granddaughter Mallori Burns.
Martha is survived by John, her husband of 38 years. Also left to cherish her memories are, two daughters, Lori Wheeler and husband Dr. Robert Wheeler, Bonnie Abram and husband Andre Abram, and son David Glasgow and wife Rebecca Glasgow. Granddaughters Baylee Carter and Kate Glasgow. Grandsons Connor and Ryan Glasgow. Great Grandson Kingston Carter. Nieces Amy Vaughn, Kathryn Orologio and husband Shayne Orologio, and great niece Madalyn Griffin.
Martha was a woman of many great talents. She participated in the band and drill team at her high school. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior when she was 8 years old at VBS in Dallas. Martha worked at Marathon Letourneau for 13 years and also worked at Encore Multimedia before becoming a realtor broker. She was a devoted member at Zonta Club of Longview for 17 years. She was awarded Zonta Woman of Achievement in 2013 and Stars over Longview in 2014. Martha retired in 2019 from real estate brokerage. Since then, she devoted herself to her family, friends, and church.
In honor of Martha's life, a visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Longview on September 20, 2024, at 6:00 pm. A funeral service will follow the next day, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Longview.
