Martha Matthews Armstrong's Obituary
MARTHA ANN ARMSTRONG
Martha Ann Matthews Armstrong, 81, passed to her eternal home on February 24, 2014 in Longview, Texas.
Martha was born December 16, 1932 to Petty Neal and Emma Leo Matthews of Elderville, Texas. She lived for a portion of her youth in Marin County, California, and moved to Longview during her junior year of high school. She graduated from Longview High School in 1950. She married Glynn Earl Armstrong on June 18, 1953. They raised three children. Martha was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Longview and was one of the founders of their Mother’s Day Out program. She was active in the ladies’ church circles. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching tennis and PGA golf. She also loved growing and enjoying beautiful flowers in her flower beds.
Martha is survived by her children, Glynn Earl (Rocky) Armstrong, Jr. and wife, Shery, of Durham, North Carolina; Matthew Armstrong of Longview, Texas; and Donald Armstrong and wife, Mary, of Longview, sixteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn Earl Armstrong, her parents, Petty Neal and Emma Matthews, her two sisters, Emma Hudnall Simpson and Patricia Neal Mitchusson, and a great-grandchild.
Services will be 3:00 Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Pastor Harry Meissner will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Elderville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. today, February 26, 2014 at Rader Funeral Home.
