Martha A. Johnson
Memorial services for Martha A. Johnson will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, July 8, at the First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Dan Miller and Dr. Clifford Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park under direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mrs. Johnson passed away at her home on Friday, July 5.
Martha was born to Samuel H. Apple and Emma Doris Apple in Wichita Falls, Texas, and had resided in Longview since 1936. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wece B. Johnson. She is survived by her cousin, Mrs. Woodrow L. Kelly of Commerce, Texas and a nephew, Joe Johnson of Cleburne, Texas.
Martha Johnson was a homemaker and an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee. She was a member of the Thelma Morgan Sunday School Class. Mrs. Johnson served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas and she was a charter member of the Junior League of Longview and a member of the Garden Study Club.
Many loving friends will remember and cherish the quiet, unassuming dignity with which she lived her life. Her love for her church and her unselfish spirit inspired the generosity with which she responded to the needs of others. The gift of her friendship and the strength of her faith were sustaining graces in the lives of those who knew her.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Dyer, Howard Coghlan, David Crowson, Mark Abernathy, John Turk, Larry Day, Neal Hawthorn, and Fred Souerbry.
