Marjorie Vaughn's Obituary
Marjorie "Margie" Pearl Vaughn passed away peacefully March 18, 2014 in Longview, Texas. The oldest of four children, Marjorie was born in Jefferson, Texas on November 24, 1925 to Durand Wayne "D.W." Rogers Sr. and Ina Mae Rogers.
After graduating from Tyler High School, she attended Federal Business Institute in Tyler, Texas. Afterwards, she immediately went to work for the Texas Public Welfare Department. She later became employed at Camp Fannin in Tyler, TX where she would meet her future husband, Lester Vaughn, who was stationed there and six months later they would marry.
Marjorie was a member of Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 54 years where she also served as the church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and church youth group leader during her younger years. As a two-time breast cancer survivor, she served as a volunteer with Reach To Recovery helping other survivors cope.
Marjorie enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, camping, and traveling. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family as she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marjorie was known to always put others first.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Lester Vaughn, her parents, Durand Wayne Rogers Sr and Ina Mae Rogers, and her brothers Durand Wayne "Bo" Rogers Jr and Harold "Jo" Rogers.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy A Freeman and her husband Robert of Longview, grandson Kevin Freeman of Diana, Texas, granddaughter Marla Freeman of Austin, Texas, great-grandsons Cole and Zane Freeman of Diana, Texas, sister Beverly Ann Simmank and her husband Carlton of Houston, Texas, nieces, nephews and her special caregiver Cassandra Gail Vinson.
The public is welcome to join the family at Rader Funeral Home in Longview Friday, March 21, 2014 from 6 pm-8 pm for a time of visitation. Funeral services will be the next day, Saturday March, 22, 2014 at 10 am, at Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Longview. Interment will follow at Elmira Chapel Cemetery.
The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. James Sawyer, Dr. Kenneth McClure, nursing staff of Good Shepherd hospital, Traci Cruz and the rehab unit nursing staff of Summer Meadows, and Alesha and Tim of Heartsway Hospice for their compassionate care.
Memorials may be made to Heartsway Hospice or Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church's Memorial Fund.
