Marjorie Gallenkamp's Obituary
Graveside services for Mrs. Marjorie Ruth Potter Gallenkamp, age 82 of Henderson will be held Saturday August 15, 2009 at 10:00am at Davis Cemetery with Jack Brooks officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Henderson.
Marjorie went to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 1:30pm at her home in Henderson. By her side was her loving husband Harry Gallenkamp, members of her immediate family, and special friends.
Marjorie was born on December 30, 1926 in Norphlet, Arkansas to parents Alma and Virgil Johnson. She was the fifth oldest of nine children. She graduated from Texas Tech
University, and did graduate work at the University of Colorado. Marjorie was a career educator and reading specialist in Corpus Christi, Texas.
After retirement, Marjorie and Harry relocated to Henderson in 1991. Marjorie was very creative and enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, and sharing her many talents with all she knew. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her swimming pool sessions with her friends, and loved music and art. She valued personal achievement and inspired those around to persevere.
Marjorie was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. She especially enjoyed writing encouraging letters to the college students of the Church and participating in Daughters of the King.
Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and sister.
She was preceded in death by her former husband Julius Calvin Potter, and her parents.
She is survived by her husband Harry Galenkamp of Henderson; son Danny Jay Potter & wife Mary of San Antonio; daughter Sherry Kay Anderton & husband Timothy of Charlotte N.C. ; son Steven Ray Potter & wife Marilu Gonzales Potter; sister Hilda Propes of Henderson; brother Cecil Johnson of Baton Rouge, La. Grandchildren Alyssa Kay Good of Sumerick, Va., Suzanne Marie Padilla of Houston, Alexis Nicole Cordava of Baytown, and Morgan Anne Box of San Antonio.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8pm Friday night.
