Mrs. Simmons passed away Monday September 1, 2008. She was born May 27, 1929 in Shreveport, LA to Travis and Mabel Bogue. She married Charles J. "Jimmy" Simmons on August 19, 1950. Marjorie graduated from Greenwood High in Greenwood LA and Centenary College in Shreveport. She taught elementary school as well as instructed pupils in piano. Her primary focus was raising her four sons and homemaking. Marjorie was a loving mother and wife. The joys in her life included her family, church, music and friends.
Marjorie held a special place in everyone's heart. Her sons knew her as Mom, her grandkids knew her as MawMaw, and the rest of the family would call her Sister or Aunt Sister. Marjorie and Jimmy made homes in several places prior to their retirement in Longview including Shreveport and Lafayette, LA., Beaumont, TX., and Benton, AR.
Marjorie was an avid non-fiction reader. The topics she most enjoyed were history and biographies. She had a very extensive vocabulary refined from a life long dedication of learning and teaching. She loved playing the piano and began her musical education in early childhood. She especially loved playing family favorites from "old time" gospel to classical and jazz.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by her mother, Mabel Campbell Bogue of Longview; her husband of 58 years, Jimmy Simmons of Longview; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jim Simmons and Sherry of Richardson, Bart Simmons and Martye of Dallas, Blake Simmons and Carolyn of Katy, and Eric Simmons and Gizell of Lafayette, LA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Travis Bogue Jr. and Margaret of Teague, Andy Bogue and Betty of Hallsville; a sister LuBeth Dupree of Longview; her ten loving grandchildren, Jeff and wife Aimee, Jeremy and wife LeighAnne, Grant and wife Kimberly, Trent, Nicole, Hunter and wife Jamie, Doug, Andrew, Hannah, and Megan Simmons; four great-grandchildren, a large number of nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
