Marion June Law Wood's Obituary
On October 25, 2018, Marion June Law Wood peacefully left this world after a brief illness to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, husband Thomas B. Wood, her parents and other loved ones preceding her in death.
Marion June Law was born on September 1, 1931, to parents Mattie Kate Law and Roy Arnold Law, the third of six children in Cass County (Atlanta, Texas). Following graduation from Atlanta High School, she was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 38 years until retirement. On September 12, 1952 she married Thomas B. Wood who was also employed by Southwestern Bell. They moved to Longview, Texas and made their home there until they were separated in 1998 by the unexpected death of Tom. June continued to live in Longview where she spent time with family, friends, and baking her signature rum cakes. During her later years, June suffered several medical challenges which she met with determination and a positive attitude.
Following her marriage to Tom, June gave birth to their two daughters, Donna and Jan, whom she loved with all her heart. She made numerous sacrifices in order for them to have the college education that she always craved. June was a charter member of the Telephone Pioneers of America as well as a member of Trammel’s Trace Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed genealogy, took art classes in continuing education, was a member of Summerfield Methodist Church and enjoyed preparing and serving the meals for members when she was able. She loved a good cup of coffee and loved to read her Bible and newspaper daily. Her greatest pride was her granddaughter Jenny and great granddaughter’s Sarah and Chloe.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Brister and husband Ronnie of Buna, Texas, and Jan Wood of Longview, Texas; granddaughter Jennifer Park and husband Adam; great granddaughters Sarah and Chloe; two sisters Patricia Smith and Gail Yates; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Monday, October 29, 2018 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Dr. Dale Covington officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Oak Cemetery near Bettie, Texas. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Monday prior to the service.
