Marion Roney's Obituary
Marion Louise Roney passed away at her home on April 19, 2024. She was born on July 10, 1936 to Thomas A. Leach, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Hursey Leach in Montgomery County, North Carolina. She lived in Star, North Carolina until she married Ernie L. Roney on February 8, 1971 in Bainbridge, Georgia. Family and friends called her by her middle name. Louise worked for many years in various office positions in North Carolina, Florida, and Texas. She retired from Dillard's in College Station, Texas before she and her husband moved to East Texas to be closer to their kids. Although she had no children of her own, she had 5 step-children. She is survived by Debbie Rhea of Trinity, TX, James (Cathy Sue) Roney of Overton, TX, Laura (Howard) Gossett of Henderson, TX, LaDonna Fress of Henderson, TX, and Suzy Roney of Abilene, TX. Other survivors include cousins Mary Ann Ziomek and Peggy Ussery, of Star, NC, niece, Diane Saunders of Star, NC, and sister-in-law Rita K. Roney of McAllen, TX. There are 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, stepson Kenneth Roney, sister Rosie Leach Williams, brother John Frank Leach, and two great-grandsons. Family members remember her as having excellent skills in sewing, embroidery, and cross-stitch. She enjoyed reading, writing to dozens of pen pals, and working puzzle books.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Highway 323 in Overton, TX under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson, with her step-grandson-in-law, Matthew Pool officiating.
The family would like to express gratitude to three very special caregivers who have taken wonderful care of her the past few years; Gracie Briscoe, Beverly Johnson, and Ann Moore.
