Marilyn Henson Garrett's Obituary
Mrs. Marilyn Henson Garrett, age 80, passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, January 10, 2015. Marilyn was born in Joplin, Missouri on October 2, 1934 to her loving parents, Efton Marion Henson and Eden VanZandt Henson. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri in 1954.
She married James Richard Garrett on October 23, 1954 in Germany while Jim was stationed there as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. Marilyn and Jim were happily married for 54 years until his death on March 21, 2009.
Marilyn and Jim owned and managed hotels together for over 50 years.
Marilyn resided in Longview, Texas for 25 years. She was an active member of the Junior League of Longview and the Green Thumb Garden Club. Marilyn and Jim moved to Forest, Mississippi in 1980, where they were dedicated community leaders.
Marilyn is predeceased by her parents, husband, and son, James Henson Garrett, who passed away on October 16, 2011.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Garrett Morris and Bruce Morris III, granddaughter, Margaret Morris Henderson and her husband Kenneth Scott Henderson, and great-grandson, Garrett Scott Henderson.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Marilyn’s long-time caregivers and friends Mrs. Helen Love, Mr. Roy Murray, and Mr. Keith Watts.
Marilyn will always be remembered for her love of her family, her strong will and intelligence, and how she always made people laugh with her extraordinary wit.
Marilyn’s family will receive loved-ones and friends during a visitation on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Rader Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. The graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Rosewood Park at 11:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
