Marie Cockrell Page's Obituary
Portie Marie Cockrell was born in Palestine, TX on December 2, 1931, to Nellie Ocie "Joy" and Jackson Perry Cockrell. Marie was the youngest of two girls. Most of her life was spent in Texas with her Father working as an engineer for the railroad and her mother working at the hospital as a registered nurse.
Marie met Garland Don Page in 1952 and immediately fell in love, leading to marriage just six weeks later. Over the next six years, the Lord blessed them with six children, of whom she was most proud. Years later, Don lead music in a local church and soon surrendered to the ministry to preach the gospel. He went to seminary and then to full time ministry pastoring numerous churches over the years until his death in 1996. Marie continued to generously share her love for the Word until her final breath. While they were never financially well off, they always had an abundance of love in their home. Don taught their children the importance of God and the church and to take pride in their work. Marie taught them the importance of family, love and forgiveness. All of which played a key role in their lives.
Marie, Portie Marie, Mom, Mrs. Page, Grandmother, G-Mom, Ree were just some of the many names she had. No matter what name you knew her by, you loved her. Marie was a mother, a teacher of life and the Word of God, an encourager, and prayer warrior. She was grace-giving and Jesus-loving and will be greatly missed by family and friends for years to come.
Her legacy includes:
Children: Ron Page (Margie), David Page (Harriet), Dana Fowlkes (Rick), Lana Hudson, Gary Page (Cathi), Mark Page (Kiva) along with 21 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
