Margie B. Stancil's Obituary
Margie B. Stancil, age 103, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Buckner Westminster Place in Longview, TX. She was born in Atlanta, Louisiana on March 21, 1922 and lived a long and fruitful life. She was an intelligent person with many interests and knew how to be a genuine friend, so she was loved by many people.
After marrying her husband Jake in 1947 she resided approximately 13 years with her husband in Maracaibo, Venezuela where he worked with Gulf Oil Corporation. Returning to the USA in the 1960’s, she resided in Tyler and Austin Texas before retiring to Longview in 2012. In Austin Margie taught business courses to international students at a community college. One of the highlights of her life was a trip to the Holy Land with one of her nieces in 1977. Upon her return she and her husband developed a slide presentation for various groups using the many photographs she took on that trip. She later enjoyed several trips in the US with her other niece.
Margie was proceeded in death by her husband, Jake Stancil, and her parents Joseph Leon Barberousse and Mattie Canterbury Barberousse; three brothers Edwin, Julius and Euell Barberousse; and two sisters: Myra Barberousse and Mary B. Fuqua. She is survived by 2 nephews and 2 nieces.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family expresses special thanks to her support assistant and friend Terry Matthews, who conscientiously provided Margie with much care and friendship in her final years of challenging physical limitations. Also, thanks to the entire staff of Buckner Westminster Place for 14 years of excellent service and care.
