Mrs. Margaret Thomas' Obituary
Memorial services for Margaret Thomas, 94, of Longview will be held at First Christian Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 with Reverend David Farmer and Dr. Richard Emerson officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial at Memory Park will be held prior to services at the Church. Mrs. Thomas passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014.
Margaret Jabour Thomas was born November 16, 1919 in Vicksburg, MS. to Marie Nowfal and Kaleel Jabour. She attended All Saints Junior College in Vicksburg. In 1947 she married Naseep John Thomas, who had returned from the service in the European Theater in World War II. They moved to Longview that year and joined the First Christian Church, where Naseep and Margaret remained active throughout their lives.
Margaret was a member of multiple Longview civic organizations. She served as president of the Longview Fine Arts Club, Kiwanis Auxiliary and Longview Federated Women’s Club. She was also vice-president of Prelude, a board member of the Longview Symphony and a founding board member of Longfellows.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Pool; son George Preston Thomas; four grandchildren George William “Ivey” Strunk, IV., Mary Margaret Thomas, Lydia Marie Thomas and John Allen Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband Naseep Thomas in 1988 and her son John Nay Thomas in 2003.
Other living relatives are her sisters-in-law Alyce Monsour and Delores Jabour. Close friends considered to be family are Johnny Vaughn, Buddy Wooley, Pat Jones, John C. Robbins and Trey McKee.
Two angels who were special to Margaret and her family are Gloria Grenzebach and Carol Turner, who blessed her days with their special love and care. The family also greatly appreciates the care administered by the medical staff at Beacon Hospice.
Pallbearers will be Trey Monsour, Joe Knox, Freddie Abraham, Trey McKee, Dr. Jack Elder. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Philip Thomas, Dr. Brad Thomas, Dr. Chris Mack, Dr. Andy Mack, Dr. Ben Mack, Matthew Pool, Dr. Kenneth Glaze and Phil Cheves.
