Margaret "Babe" Jennings
Memorial services for Margaret "Babe" Jennings, 86, of Longview, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Reverend Shanna Suarez officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. She passed away Sunday morning, May 15, at her residence in Longview.
Mrs. Jennings was born June 9, 1924 in Monroe, LA. Babe was a great mother and the "best of friend." She was a woman who loved animals and nature, adventure and travel, reading and studying, and walked 2 miles a day for more than two decades. She was a historian and a humanitarian, strong in principle, strong in her beliefs, and a cancer survivor of twenty-one years.
Babe's belief: "Life was for living to the fullest every day."
She was a member of The Daughters of the King and The Study Club. She attended Trinity Episcopal Church and attended Bible Study at Longview Christian Fellowship.
Babe supported The Longview Symphony and The Shakespeare Festival of Kilgore, and at one time, Babe was the president of The East Texas Chapter of Republican Women. She was a woman who never accepted the words, "I can't", and at age 65, received a BS degree from ETBU.
Babe was a warrior.
Babe was a survivor.
She was a great mentor.
She was a great mother.
She was a great friend.
She was Babe.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Smith and husband Steve of Reston, VA, Carol Mason and husband Kent of Spring, TX, and Bonnie Jennings of Tyler; grandchildren, Elysia Elrod and husband Travis of Tyler and Joel Warne of Tucson, AZ; great grandson, Jacob Travis Elrod of Tyler; sister, Fannie Welch and husband Ozzie of Gretna, LA; brother, James Duke Patton and wife Ann of Palestine, TX.
