Margaret Irene Cord's Obituary
Margaret Cord, 82, died Wednesday May 5, 2004 after living with the life changing restrictions of Lou Gehrig's disease. Margaret was known to freinds for her kind words, gentle spirit, and helpful nature. She was affectionately known to her family as Granny, whichw was a name and roll she valued and treasured. Margaret wasa born in Rocky Ford, Colo., and received her RN certification in 1944 from Beth-El School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, Colo. She continued her education and received a B. S. degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1978. The highlight of her nursing career was her teaching position of 20 years with the LVN program at Kilgore College. She has been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Longview since 1967. Margaret served on the session, taught adult and children's Sunday school classes, chaired a women's circle, and led Bible studies. She is survived by a brother, Melvin Nix of Sterling, Colo.; sister Ruth Propst of Atwood, Colo.; children, Steve Cord, M.D. and wife Jeannie of Lubbock, Col. Patrick Cord USAF and wife Mary of Warreensburg, Mo.; Peggy Cord of Dallas, and 7 grandchildren: Stephen, Andrew, Megan, Margie, Matt, Devin, and Ryan, and 2 great-grandchildren: Emily and Jake. The memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday May 15, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church of Longview. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Muscular Dystrophy Assoc.
