Margaret Duemke Kirkland's Obituary
Margaret Duemke Kirkland 1913 ? 2005 was born and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years. Kenneth Clayton Kirkland. For the past three years, she has resided at Alpine House in Longview, Texas.
She is survived by five children: Joan Kirkland Reynolds of Rockcastle County, Kentucky, Jean Kirkland Warren of Combe Raleigh, Devon, England, Kathryn Margaret Kirkland-Handley of Richmond, Surrey, England, Kenneth Clayton Kirkland, Jr. and his wife Gay Kirkland of Longview, Texas, and Marjorie Ann Kirkland of Owensboro, Kentucky. She has 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her sister resides in Salem, Oregon and her brother, Carl Duemke lives in New Hope, Minnesota.
Margaret and Kenneth Kirkland lived in Owensboro, Kentucky for 55 years where Margaret was an active church and community volunteer. An Accomplished musician since her teenage years, she was a vocalist, a pianist, and an organist. Involved with Girl Scouting from childhood, she continued as an adult volunteer in a variety of leadership positions including interim director of the Pennyroyal Girl Scout Council. In her late 60?s she became a first time college student with a focus on poetry. Enrolled at Brescia College in Owensboro, she found opportunity to recite and publish her poetry. Margaret and her husband, Kenneth, traveled extensively throughout Kentucky, the United States and the British Isles.
Burial services will be at Memorial Gardens in Owensboro, KY on Saturday, February 26, 2005. In lieu of Flowers, Greater Hospice of Texas or your favorite charity may be acknowledged.
