Marcus Page Bennett, 66, of Henderson, Texas, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021. He was born on March 5, 1954, in Longview, Texas, the eldest son of Page and Dorothy Bennett. He attended schools in Longview and graduated from Longview High School in 1972 where he was active in FFA and spent many hours at his love of restoring cars, culminating in the completion of his 1969 Plymouth GTX. Influenced to a great degree by his father’s and grandfather’s cattle activities, he also won competitions in raising registered Hereford cattle during his high school FFA years. He continued his education and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1976, majoring in Journalism and English. And, he later received his teaching certification from Stephen F. Austin University.
Marcus had a passion for writing, the written word, and also enjoyed photography. He began his adult life’s journey as a reporter for Longview News in 1977, learning much from the late Margaret Estes about the world of news. His various experiences also included advertising, sales, case manager for the disabled, tending cattle, and later in life, was a teacher. He taught in various East Texas Schools including Longview, Henderson, Nacogdoches, Carlisle, and Texas College. No matter what his circumstances, what life’s battle he may be facing, or where ever God had placed him; Marcus’s compassion and willingness to help others was ever present from his early days until his last. That, along with his open and outgoing, friendly nature endeared him to many who grew to know him. God eventually planted him in Henderson where he loved his many friends, neighbors, and continued his faithful Christian walk with the fellowship of the New Life Church congregation. The family wishes to express its thanks to the help and support of Ms. Dorothy Glasscock, and her family, for their friendship to Marcus over the past many years, and to his family during this time.
