Mabel Matilda Phillips' Obituary
Mabel Matilda Mitchell Phillips
Mabel has gone home to be with her Lord Savior, Jesus Christ on 3 March 2010. The celebration of her life will be at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Grace Hill Cemetery next to her beloved husband of nearly 40 years. Officiating will be her friend of many years, Chaplain Dottie Bachtell.
She was welcomed not only by her Lord Jesus Christ but also by her husband, Seabern Joseph Phillips, her parents James Norman and Minnie Lee Garrett Mitchell and her little brother and other family members. She was born on 23 April 1914 in Red Oak, Lamar County, Texas where her grandparents were instrumental in the development of early Texas history and her young life.
At 19, she married the love of her life and handsome young man named Seabern Phillips. Her young adult life was spent in Red River County where Seabern and Mabel were the proud parents of two daughters, Coeta and Phyllis.
In 1956, the family moved to Longview, Texas where Seabern worked for RG Letourneau and Mabel would be a homemaker. And their oldest daughter would marry. The family joined Pinewood Park Baptist Church where Letourneau Credit Union sets today. When it dissolved, the family joined Mobberly Avenue Baptist while Barney Walker was pastor followed by Dr. Havard and Laney Johnson. Mabel enjoyed going to all of the senior activities that all the churches in Longview had. She was a charter member of the Green Street Senior Citizen and a charter member of the Good Shepherd Classic Care. She became very active at First Baptist with the BXYZ changing her membership to First Baptist Church for a while before returning to Mobberly.
Traveling was something that she loved whether it was to Hawaii for her birthday or to Canada or just around the United States for fun or a mission trip. She enjoyed her water aerobics and friends at the Paula Martin Center. In fact, they even gave her a surprise birthday party that she would talk about for years to follow. As a proud and loyal American, Mabel loved to watch her American Flag flying daily that was put up by her grandson, Christopher Bridges who served in the US Army. She always enjoyed parties with friends and family. She will be missed by all.
To cherish, her memory are her daughters, Coeta Presley and Phyllis Bridges along Sons in law, Bob Presley and Steve Bridges. She was proud of her grandchildren and their spouses, Alan and Carrie Presley, Denise and Travis Kunkel, Christina and Kevin Massey, and Christopher and Christina Bridges. And her proudest joy were her Great Grandchildren, Skyler Howe, Breonna Bridges, Suzanna Kunkel, Lance Bridges, Sebastian Massey, and Sarah Kunkel. Special Friend and neighbor, Lillian Jones
