Lynne Stout's Obituary
Lynne Ellen Maier Stout, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2019, in Longview.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 18, 1941, she was one of four children of Chris and Lillian Maier. Her father was employed by RG LeTourneau and she was a “Tourneau brat,” living for a period in the barracks. She was a graduate of Longview High School, class of 1958, and was a member of the reunions planning committee for years.
Lynne received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. While attending the University, she met the father of her children, Robert Stout. Married 23 years, they traveled around Europe and United States before finally settling in Chico, California. In 1984, she returned to Texas and ultimately to Longview, where she reunited with her high school sweetheart Mike Hvezdos.
While the children were young, Lynne worked as an editor, reviewing Masters’ theses and doctoral dissertations at Eastern University in Richmond, KY and Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. With a heart for children and youth, she spent most of her career in social services which included probation, child protective services and as the Director of the Longview Youth Shelter. After retiring as a social worker, she went to work for Neiman Marcus Distribution Center in Longview managing the Bergdorf Goodman account.
Lynne was an avid reader and a huge fan of the Kilgore Shakespeare Festival, Longview Community Theatre and Artsview Children’s Theatre. Before her illness, she was an ESL volunteer for the East Texas Literacy Council. She was known for her generosity, compassion, overwhelming optimism and spunkiness.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dennis Maier; and by infant child, Charles David Stout.
She is survived by her children, Paul Stout of San Francisco; Emily Stout of Austin; Ingrid and Steven Self of Longview; Deirdre (Dee) Stout Brecke of Seattle; grandchildren, Nick Brecke of Poulsbo, Wa, and Guinevere Brecke of Seattle; brothers and spouses Chris and Lucy Maier of Fort Worth; Martin and Valerie Maier of Friendswood, TX; sister-in-law Donna Maier of Granite Shoals; and many nieces and nephews; cousins; step-grandchildren; and friends.
At her request, there will not be a service at this time. True to form, she asked that friends and family have time to grieve so that her memorial would truly be a time for celebration and laughter. For memorial donations, please consider Heartsway Hospice, East Texas Literacy Council, East Texas CASA, The Martin House, or D.O.R.S Youth Transition Center.
