Lula Ann "Lou" Justiss Noonan's Obituary
Lula Ann “Lou” Justiss Noonan completed her earthly journey peacefully, surrounded by her children after a brief illness, on March 30, 2025 at the young age of 94, in Longview Texas. Lou was born March 3, 1931 in Big Lake Texas to Luie E. Justiss and Nona Ione Garner. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband James M. Noonan.
Lou is survived by her children, Shaan N Welch and husband Russell of Longview, Kevin N Stoerner and husband Louis of Houston, James M Noonan Jr. of Dallas, Kelly Noonan and wife Rachael Sandifer of Arlington. Also continuing her legacy are beloved Grandchildren Kerry Davis (Michael), Christopher Novak (Salem), Corey Stoerner (Elsa), Amanda Stoerner (Demetrius), eight Great Grandchildren, numerous Nieces and Nephews, Exchange Student, Dagmar Baroy of Barmstedt, Germany, Step-Grandchildren and Step-Great Grandchildren.
Beloved Wife, Mother, GG, Mother-in-Law, Daughter, Sister, and Aunt, Lou lived a full life of love and laughter even up to the last minutes of her life when she told her care nurses that she hoped that they would live long, happy lives like she had during her 94 years. Lou graduated second in her class from Conroe High School in 1949. She attended secretarial school and went to work in Houston. She moved into the YWCA, attended a YMCA/YWCA dance, and met the love of her life. As the story goes, Jim walked into the dance, saw Lou from across the room, and told his brother “I’m gonna marry that girl.” They were married in 1950, and on their honeymoon, went to see the movie Cinderella. Their love story truly stood the test of time, she never stopped loving Jim and in 75 years, never removed her wedding band.
As a lifelong volunteer, Lou was a lover of people and causes, with a passion toward identifying and addressing the needs of others. Along with dedicating her life to her family, she gave generously of her time and resources to the Carthage Service League, volunteered at the Longview Historical Museum and was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Meals on Wheels volunteer in Longview as she delivered meals and friendship through her late 80’s. Lou was faithful to her husband’s leadership with the Shriners as she served in the Ladies Auxiliary of Shrine Sharon Temple in Tyler and served as first lady during Jim’s term as Potentate in 1989.
In addition to her altruistic spirit Lou loved music, theatre, and the arts-passing that same love along to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She sang alto in the church choir and played both the piano and trombone. She and Jim hosted and performed in a Sunday morning radio program in 1963. The Noonan kids fondly remember singing their way through every family road trip. She was a gourmet cook of Italian, Mexican, Cajun/Creole, Seafood, Southern and French cuisine and shared generously through her love of entertaining. Continuing her love of an active life, she traveled to over 16 countries, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and even committed her time to honing her Spanish through her 80’s and early 90’s.
Lou never met a stranger and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and passion to her many friends in her Longview neighborhood of Town Lake Village and most recently Parkview on Hollybrook where she made her home six years ago. She lived a life of strong beliefs, commitment to family and friends, humility, and joy of living and will forever be remembered as such. She will be missed by many.
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, May 3rd at 2:30 pm at Parkview on Hollybrook Independent Living (603 Hollybrook Drive, Longview TX 75605). In lieu of flowers the family requests that you honor Lou and the life she lived generously with donations to Meals on Wheels of Longview, The American Heart Association, or to the Charity of your choice. Lou will be interred beside her beloved husband in Houston TX.
