Lucille Thomas' Obituary
Memorial services for Lucille Thomas, 95, of Longview will be 11:30 AM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at First Christian Church, 720 N. 6th St., preceded by committal services at 10:30 AM at Memory Park Cemetery with Dr. Richard Emerson and Dr. Jim Lewis officiating under direction of Rader Funeral Home. Mrs. Thomas died late Sunday evening at a local hospital.
Mrs. Thomas was a native of Palestine, Texas. After her marriage to the late Isaac Thomas, she moved to Longview in 1931. She worked along side her husband and other family members in Thomas Brothers Department Store. She experienced Longview's growing from a small oil boom brick-road town into the outstanding city it is today. Her love for family, people, music, church, and cultural development, reflected her energy of activities during her lifetime.
Mrs. Thomas served as P.T.A. President and girl scout leader at First Ward Elementary School in the 50's. Other activities of her long years included: being a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, a six-year board member of the Longview Symphony, serving on the board of directors and being past-president of the Fine Arts Club with ten years as scholarship chairman. She was the hospitality chairman of the Longview Women's Forum, membership chairman of the Longview Music Club, a greeter for Prelude, served two years on the Community Center Board, served as a member of Longview Civic Music, the Longview Federation of Women's Club, Knife and Fork Club, and was honored by Longview Bank and Trust as "People of Our Community Who Make A Difference." Lucille was an ardent fund raiser, and opened her home, her love, and excellent cooking skills to everyone.
She will remain "Our Mama Lou."
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Pauline Barro, a brother, Albert Barro, and sister, Alice Monsour all of Shreveport.
Lucille is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanette and Charles Abraham of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Marlene and George Haraka of Houston, and Dianne and Dr. Kenneth Glaze of Longview. Other survivors include her eight grandchildren: Charlene Davis and spouse Robert, Chuck Abraham and wife Terri, Suzanne Hull and spouse Greg, David Abraham, Maggie Collins and spouse Kevin, Angela Ramm and spouse David, Kathryn Spofford and spouse Ben, and Lane Glaze and his spouse Sally. Her 12 great grandchildren are: Chase, Christian, and Elizabeth Abraham, Haylee, Hannah, Meredith and Madeline Hull, Kristen and Blake Collins, Dylan Ramm, and twins, Cash and Kinley Glaze. Her sisters are Kay and Frances Barro of Shreveport. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will have visitation from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd. Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, 720 N. 6th St. Longview, TX 75601 or to a charity of your choice.

G. Thomas, Dr. Tommy Thomas, Joe Knox, David Ramm, Dean Ogilvie, and C. R. Gordon.
