Lucille Goodson Fowler
Lucille Goodson Fowler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013. An Alzheimer's patient. Meme, as she was lovingly known, died peacefully in her sleep while a patient at Good Shepherd Hospital.
Lucy Fowler was born October 27, 1929 to Huel and Birtie Goodson. She attended Harmony schools and after graduation began her career as a student nurse at Ragland Clinic Hospital in Gilmer, Texas. While living in Gilmer she met the love of her life, Billy Jack Fowler. They were married August 6, 1947. Bill preceded Lucy in death four months after their 50th wedding anniversary. She was also proceeded in death by her sister, Francis Gaston, her beloved sister-in-law and confident, Brenda Goodson, her parents, Huel and Birtie Goodson, and grandchildren, Brent and Ashley Jordan. Her last vocal wishes were that she could be with Bill and her two precious grandchildren.
Lucy is survived by her two daughters. Her daughter and caregiver, Billie Fowler Jordan and husband, Mike of Lake Cherokee and White Oak, granddaughters, Whitney BreAnn Jordan and Welby Anne Jordon of College Station. Tamara Goodson, Leigh and Zach Klotz of Frisco. Stephen and Lacy Schwartz of Hallsville and David Schwartz of Flowermound. Matt and Melissa Maines of White Oak. Meme was blessed with many great grandbabies including, Taylor and Matt Taylor, Brody Gavin Klotz all of Frisco, Judd and Nat Hopkins of Spring Hill. Nephew, Joe Wilson and Wife Victoria. She is also survived by loving friends, Sarah Maine and Louise Roe.
Bill and Lucy Fowler were a team from the beginning always sharing an active part in their children and grandchildren's lives. Grandchildren were the love of Lucy's life and she never went a day without asking where they were. Her greatest pride was seeing and sharing in the graduation of five of her grandchildren.
She became a die heart Aggie fan and proudly wore her Aggie Meme t-shirts and was bless to know her granddaughter, Whitney had applied for veterinary school. When her memory failed her, she continued to know her precious granddaughters who were lovingly by her bedside as she went to be with the Lord.
Lucy Fowler's resume and list of involvements reflects a lifetime of loyalty to her family, her faith, her work and her community service.
A member of Mobberly Baptist Church, Aggie Moms, a lifetime member of the PTA. Meme was a member of the Pilot Club of Longview since 1979. She served as president, projects chairperson, international affairs chairman, editor of the Pilot Eye, on the scholarship board of directors, corresponding secretary and vice president. She was actively involved in The Working Woman's Dream House Project, Very Special Arts, Salvation Army, Lobiolly Jubilee, Pilot Club Spaghetti Luncheon, Literacy Program, Life Line at Saint Jude Hospital and Compassionate Friends of East Texas.
Lucy was committed to giving back to her community a small portion of what had been given to her. She instilled this same commitment in those around her. Although not with us in body, her spirit and good works will continue because of the seeds of love she so carefully planted in her children and grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Father Mike Maxwell officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service. At her request, cremation arrangements are under the direction of the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Wilcox, Stephen Schwartz, Tommy Maines, Randy Brint, Joe Wilson, Joe Derry, and Seth Butler.
