Lucille Elizabeth Hagler's Obituary
Elizabeth Hagler, 89, of Longview, died Sunday evening, March 16, 2008, at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview, 10 AM Wednesday with David Cotham officiating. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Park Mausoleum.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
Lucille Elizabeth Moore Hagler was born to Jim and Nina Bryant Moore on May 15, 1918. Elizabeth grew up in the small community of English Texas, outside of Clarksville, Texas, where she attended the small community school until high school. The she attended and graduated from Clarksville High School.
After graduation, Elizabeth attended East Texas State University where she received her BS degree in elementary education and also met her future husband, James Walter Hagler. They were married on April 4, 1941. She taught for the next few years until her children were born and then returned to teaching after they were in school. She taught at Pine Tree for 9 years until J. W. became an administrator in Longview ISD. She then taught in Longview for the next 20 years. She loved teaching, especially 3rd grade and really felt that she was accomplishing something important with her students.
Two daughters, Glenda Hagler Wood and Betty Hagler Sistrunk and her husband, Sid Sistrunk, survive her. Three grandchildren include Traye Conway and his wife, Jeanette, Shelley Conway Hilliard and her husband, Jeff, and Angela Wood McFarland and her husband, Paul. Eight great grandchildren are Traye Conway, Trevor Conway, Tyler McFarland, Hallie McFarland, Ashley McFarland, Lainey McFarland, Dusty Carter and Matt Fenter.
