LTC Charles Albert Brizius, SR.'s Obituary
Services for LTC Charles Albert Brizius, SR. Ret., 81, of Longview, will be 10 AM Monday, April 16, 2007 in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview with Rev. David Farmer officiating. Entombment will follow in Lakeview Mausoleum. Mr. Brizius passed away Wednesday afternoon after battling Lewy Body Dementia for many years. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday, April 15 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
Charles was born on May 14, 1925 in Evansville, Indiana to Albert F. and Ersie May Brizius. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1940. He served in WWII where he engaged in the Battle of the Bulge, and Vietnam where he flew helicopter rescue missions. He received numerous medals, awards and citations including one signed by General Douglas McArthur. He retired after 27 years of service.
He and his wife Brigitte moved to Longview in 1967 and he became a successful business man in the real estate appraisal field. He served on the City Zoning Board for several years and the Gregg County Appraisal Review Board. He was an active member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge and Sharon Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the First Christian Church where he was a deacon and active in numerous activities until his health began to fail.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Brigitte Brizius; sons Steven, David and wife Sheila, George and wife Kathy, Charles Jr. and wife Sharon; daughter Justine Atkins and husband Ed; brother Buck Garrett; sister Roselle Schnabel and a special niece Kay Griffin; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Sharon Shrine Temple, RT. 3 BOX 1329, Tyler, Texas 75705; or LBDA Lewy Body Dementia Association, PO BOX 451429, Atlanta, GA. 31145-9429.
