Loyd Dwain Gregory's Obituary
Loyd Dwain Gregory was born on September 24, 1931 in St. Louis, Oklahoma to W.A and Mary Frances Gregory. He passed away on Thursday evening in Longview. He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 siblings, and a grandson, Jeremy Gregory.
Dwain attended Leverett’s Chapel School all 12 years where he participated in all sports and made many lifelong friendships. He continued to work and coach there until his father died in 1953. He went to Paris Junior College on an athletic scholarship in football and also played tennis. In 1955, he married Martha Nell Mills and continued his education at Stephen F. Austin University, graduating with a B.S. degree. He later earned his Master’s Degree.
He coached in Yoakum, TX for 5 years and then moved to Judson ISD as high a school coach and teacher. Later he became Assistant Principal at Judson Junior High. He received the PTA award for service. Mr. Gregory spent a lifetime enjoying his work with his students.
After retirement, he loved gardening and yard work and spending time with family at his home in Spring Hill where he lived for over 50 years. He was married to his loving wife, Martha, for 62 years and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Martha; two children Greg Allen Gregory and Ann Janette Crews and her husband Brien; his grandchildren Breana and Nathan Crews and Ginger Scribner and her husband Billy; great grandchildren Julie Johnson, Jaden Gregory and Kyser Gregory. Surviving siblings are W.A. Gregory and Don M. Gregory along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 25, at 3 PM at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Longview. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM at Rader Funeral Home of Longview on Saturday.
