Louise Mathis Smith
Louise (nee) Mathis Smith was born in Gurdon, Arkansas, on December 20, 1923 and died at Good Shepherd Hospital on October 9, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband, Duane Hurst Smith, on October 7, 2012. The couple married on August 16, 1942. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2012.
Louise worked a number of years as a bookkeeper at Fedway Department Store (which changed to Dillards) in downtown Longview. She also worked in tax preparations at H&R Block for a few years.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Duane and wife, Carol, of Fair Oaks, California and Gary Wayne and his wife, Susan on London, Ontario, Canada as well as grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Noah Smith, Joanna Schrichfield, Christina Decker and Angela Smith; and two great-grandchildren. Louise was also “Aunt Lou” to a much larger extended family including the Chuck Smith, Mike Castle and the Moore families.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Rosewood Park Mausoleum Chapel in Longview, with the Reverend Richard Emerson officiating. Interment will be in Rosewood Park Cemetery beside Duane. Donations in her honor should go to the First Christian Church of Longview.
