Lois Bedsole Grammer's Obituary
Lois was born November 7, 1929, in Pt. Arthur, Texas and the Lord Jesus gathered her under His wing June 11, 2022.
She met and married her East Texas Baptist College sweetheart, Gene Grammer, on July 14, 1951, almost 71 years ago! She taught high school math for one year then became a full-time, dedicated military wife for the next 32 years. They ended up moving 19 times during those years, and for the first ten years of their marriage, he was away half that time!
Lois always stayed actively involved in bowling leagues where she earned several trophies; crossword puzzles including one that is 6ft by 6ft; cross-stitches for hundreds of friends and families celebrating their 25th or 50th wedding anniversary as well as celebrating a newborn baby; canning, freezing, preserving and cooking the yearly crop of vegetables from Gene’s garden - even at the age of 91 she was still walking out to the garden to bring him a cup of water!; church choirs sharing the beautiful soprano voice the Lord gifted her with. In fact, at the end of the service we have a recording of Lois singing the second verse of “The King is Coming” back in 1970; church libraries where she began typing book labels on a non-electric typewriter - she used to type 80 words per minute!; church missions programs including Sunbeams, GAs, and Acteens crowning each of her three daughters with the awards they earned; church Vacation Bible Schools and children’s programs; church outreach programs especially teaching English as a Second Language; And daily Bible readings - she has read the Bible through each year for almost the last 15 years!
She was also involved in endless school and non-school activities while raising her three daughters and attended many military functions while unselfishly serving her husband during his career. During their retirement years she and Gene labored together promoting the gospel of Christ to future generations in their own family and at Macedonia Baptist Church and East Texas Baptist University.
She is survived by her husband Gene, three daughters and their husbands - Mary & Clay of Hickory, North Carolina; Jeannie & Rick of Dallas, Texas; and Judy & Larry of Longview, Texas - ten grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild as well as two brothers, their wives and many nieces and nephews.
