LLoyd Aaron Cook's Obituary
Services for Lloyd Aaron Cook, 80, of Longview will be held at 2p.m. Monday October 1, 2007 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Holda officiating. Entombemnt will follow in Rosewood Park Mausoleum.
He was born April 23, 1927 in Kibler, Arkansas, and had been a resident of Texas for most of his life moving from Arkansas with his parents and only sister when he was just a few days old.
Lloyd volunteered for the service in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving on the U.S.S. Thomas Jefferson and was honorably discharged in 1946.
In 1946, he married Imogene Machen and they began their life together in Texas where Lloyd was employed in the West Texas oilfields for 38 years. He began his career with Eastland Drillign Co. in Odessa, TX becoming the youngest driller, worked for Baker Oil Tools and Johnston-Schlumberger as a tool specialist and completed his career with Basin Packer Co. in Odessa, Tx.
Lloyd was an exceptional woodcrafter and clock repairman. He loved working on antique clcoks and also built many clocks by hand. After retiring and moving to Longview, Tx to be near his two daughters and grandchildren, he worked part-time for Haverty's setting up clocks for them. His disease worsened and he was no longer able to perform the hobby he loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William O. and Maude Eva Owen Cook; and his only sister , Marcelle Hall, who passed away August 29, 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Imogene of Longview; his two daughters, Darlene Nixon and husband Lary of WHite Oak, TX; Sharlene Robinett and husband Barton of Longview, TX.; 3 grandchildren, Cary Don Handley, Stacey Hawthorne, and Channen Handley, and 1 great-grandchild, Sunny Hawthorn; along with 4 beloved nieces and 1 nephew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class at Mobebrly Baptist Church, 625 E. Loop 281, Longview, Tx. 75605; Alzheimers Alliance of NE Texas, Inc. 211 Winchester, Tyler, TX 75701; Hearts Way Hospice, 1306 Pine Tree Road, Longview, TX 75604 or charity of your choice.
Visitation will be from 4-6pm Sunday evening, September 30, 2007 at the funeral home.
