Linda Semlear's Obituary
Longview, Texas – Linda Walton Semlear passed away on May 17, 2025, at the age of 79.
Linda Semlear was born in Kilgore, Texas on August 25, 1945, to Al and Odessa Walton. Linda and her siblings grew up in Kilgore, where the family were devoted members of the First Presbyterian Church. After graduating from Kilgore High School and Kilgore College, she completed her degree at Stephen F. Austin University, where she met the love of her life, Jack Semlear. They were married in 1967, raised their two children in Longview, Texas, and were married for 46 years until his death in 2014.
After early employment with Texas Eastman and raising her family, Linda resumed her teaching career and ultimately retired from Pine Tree ISD. She was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the professional organization for educators.
Linda’s abiding commitment was to her family. “Nonnie” was beloved by her grandchildren, and was a cherished mother, sister, and aunt. She also extended her love and care to her friends, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Odessa Walton, and her husband, Jack Semlear. She is survived by her son, Eric Semlear and his wife, Kelly; her daughter, Elaine Hargate; her grandchildren, Brayden, Allison, Kate, Olivia, Jessica, Clay, and Sara; along with nieces, a nephew, great nieces and nephews, and other loved ones.
The family would like to express their profound gratitude and appreciation to the caring staff at Buckner Westminster and Heartsway Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, located at 1617 Judson Rd., Longview, TX. Burial will follow at Memory Park, 2823 E. Marshall Ave., Longview, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the charity of your choice.
