Lillie LaVerne Smith
Lillie LaVerne Smith was born on August 13, 1932, in Terrell, TX to Lannie Garland and Fannie Bell Jennings Gentry, and passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 in Longview. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ollie Mae Sanders, Anis Leath and Freda Douga.
She is survived by her son, Mike Douga and daughter-in-law, Janice of Nederland, TX; daughter, Kimberly Childress Walker and son-in-law, Michael of White Oak; grandson, Kyle Childress and wife Jaimee of Longview; grandsons, Shane and Cayne Douga of Nederland; four great granddaughters and four great grandson; numerous nieces nephews and special friends.
LaVerne grew up in Kilgore and later moved to Dallas/Ft. Worth and to Baytown. She returned to East Texas in 2002. Her love for people was shown by opening her home to many foreign exchange students and their families. She enjoyed traveling abroad, cooking, quilting and growing a wide variety of plants and gardening. LaVerne was a member of the First Baptist Church of Longview.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will follow in Rusk County Memorial Gardens, Henderson. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
