Funeral services for Lillie B. Toodie Hughes, 96, of Henderson, will be held at the First Presbyterian Church USA at 1:30 PM Friday, October 15, 2010 with Pastor Candice Klein and Chaplain Vic Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:00 PM at Tennessee Community Cemetery near Timpson under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Hughes died Monday, October 11, 2010 at her residence.
She was born June 1, 1914 in Shelby County on land that was settled by her Grandfather, J.B. Woodfin, in 1828. She was born at her Grandfather's home just south of the cemetery to Benjamin and Mary Earnest Woodfin Billingsley. She was baptized and attended church in the original Presbyterian Church built by the settlers just west of the cemetery, and went to school in a school house next to the church. Her childhood home, where she lived with her parents and brothers and sisters Bennie, Clyde, George and Dovie, was approximately 2 miles east of the cemetery. One of the few times that she ventured away from Shelby County, she met and married the love of her life, William F. Toby Hughes, Sr. They were married for forty-three years and she has been waiting to join him in Heaven since 1974.
Mr. and Mrs. Hughes moved to East Texas in 1948 and to Henderson in 1958 . She was a florist for Highway Flower Shop for 15 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church USA since 1948, a member of the Eastern Star, Henderson Garden Club, and the Henderson Golden Lions. She also served as a Mary Kay Cosmetics Beauty Consultant for 30 years.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, William F. Toby Hughes, Sr.; brothers, Clyde Billingsley and George Billingsley; sisters, Bennie Mae Nelson and Dovie Horton.
Surviving are her children; William F. Toby Hughes, Jr. and wife Sherry of Cibolo, TX., Joe H. Hughes and wife Sue Strong Hughes of Montgomery, TX., and Mary Beth Fitzgerald of Henderson, TX.; seven grandchildren, Joel Hughes, Joni Coker and husband Steve, Bill Hughes , Kenneth Hughes and wife Raheela, John Hughes , Brian Fitzgerald and wife Amanda, and Patrick Fitzgerald and wife Amy; 17 great grandchildren; Joshua and Jacob Hughes, John and Kyle Coker, Kayla and Keely Hughes, Zoya Hughes, Brady Hughes, Jake, Owen, Landon and Quinn Fitzgerald, Logan, Cole, Lillie and Caley Fitzgerald.
Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
