Dear Chris, Alyson and Merritt,
It was with the greatest of sadness that I learned of Lila’s return to the Father’s house from her grandmother last weekend. I am so very sorry that I was not able to be there on Thursday for the memorial service as I have been out of town. I almost referred to her passing as an “untimely” death, but that of course cannot be true. Everything, everything happens in God’s time, even our deaths. Though we do not know the mind of God, his grace and mercy are deep and wide and in this we place our hope.
I was so very moved by your beautiful tribute to Lila in the paper. How you rejoiced and celebrated her life from the moment she was conceived, through the pregnancy, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. This is Lila’s legacy, the eternal gift of God’s holy joy. Your precious little daughter and sister has brought the love you poured into her life and laid it before the throne of God. The smile that once looked upon you and gazed into your eyes is now bathed in the eternal light of Christ, our resurrected King. There is no doubt in my mind or heart that she will be there to greet you on the day that the Lord calls you home. And she will have you carry her once more as you lay your life and love before the throne.
