Lester Smith Vaughn's Obituary
Lester Smith Vaughn, 86, of Longview passed away peacefully at Beacon Hospice, Margaret's House with his loving family by his side May 24, 2013. He was the oldest of six children and was born March 8, 1927 in Leedey, OK to William S. and Gladys Foster Vaughn.
After graduating from Leedey high school Lester enlisted in the US Army where he honorably served our country during WWII. While stationed at Camp Fannin in Tyler, TX he met Marjorie Rogers and six months later they were married.
Lester attended Tyler Jr. College. He retired from Eastman Kodak Co as a supervisor after 35 years. He was a 53 yr member of Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities and was recognized as Elder Emeritus. Lester was also a Master Mason for over 65 years and was a member of Pine Tree Lodge #1392 and a member of GS Health Institute where he was an inspiration to many who knew him.
Lester enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling however, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Lester never met a stranger and if you knew him you knew that.
Lester is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Marjorie "Margie" Vaughn, daughter Judy Freeman and her husband Robert and grandson Kevin Freeman all of Longview, granddaughter Marla Freeman of Austin, TX, great-grandsons Cole and Zane Freeman both of Diana, TX, sisters Opal Smith and her husband Lawrence of Liberal, KS, Betty and Erlin Penner both of Fairview, OK and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, brothers Oscar and James Vaughn and a sister Carolyn Warren.
The public is welcome to join the family at Rader Funeral Home in Longview Monday, May 27, 2013 from 6 pm-8 pm for a time of visitation. Funeral services will be the next day, Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10 am, at Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Longview. Interment will follow there at Elmira Chapel Cemetery.
