Leroy Wayne McCaw's Obituary
Leroy Wayne McCaw, 85, of Longview and Tyler passed away Thursday, January 25th at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Roy and Lillian McCaw on November 28th, 1932. His parents along with two brothers and three sisters moved to Levelland, Texas where he met his first wife Joy Meares, to whom he was married for 61 years before her passing.
After his service in the US Air Force he moved to Longview, Texas. First working at Trailmobile as a welder and eventually retiring from Sabine Mining Company as a welder on their heavy drag line equipment.
He was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church for 56 years and volunteered in several areas. He especially loved his Sunday School small group class and looked forward to serving Sunday mornings as a “greeter”.
Leroy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended all of the school programs, ballgames and softball games that he possibly could whether local or out of town. He loved to yodel and sing for his family and friends. He also loved to read his Bible and write short stories.
He is survived by his wife of four years, Geneva Starr of Tyler, two sons, Rick McCaw and his wife, Melinda of Longview and Jeff McCaw and his wife, Sherri of Henderson. His daughter, Sherial Vickery and her husband, David of Longview, 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Audrey McCaw of Pittsburg and 2 sisters, Dorothy Grabel of Little Elms and Wanda Sawyer of Pittsburg, TX.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, his brother Bobby Dean and his sister, Lola Redden.
There will be a time of visitation at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, TX on Sunday, January 28th from 4-6 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 29th at 12 noon at the funeral home with interment following at Memory Park Cemetery, Longview.
