Leon Robertson's Obituary
Services for Leon Robertson will be held on Wednesday, August 11, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview, Texas, with entombment immediately following at Memory Park Mausoleum. He died Sunday, August 8, 2004 following a long, courageous fight with Parkinson's Disease.
Leon, son of Morris and Mamie Robertson, was born July 20, 1922, and grew up in Lakeview, Hall County; Texas. Leon and Erma Lilley were married on February 3, 1943 to begin 55 years fo marriage. Settling first in Lakeview, in 1954 they moved to Longview, where they made their home, raised their three daughters, and were members in Wesley-McCabe Methodist Church and the Teamworkers Sunday School Class.
After distinguished military service to our country, Leon first followed in the family tradition of cotton farming in Hall County. Then Leon began a long successsful career in the grocery business, first with his own store in Lakeview and later as a store manager with a major grocery chain in Longview. Leon ultimately joined Sears to continue serving Longview community through his sales and outstanding customer service, retiring from Sears in 1984.
Leon, known as "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, is preceded in death by his beloved Erma in 1998 and is survived by three daughters: Karen Stuart of Dallas, Debbie Smith and husband Norman of Longview, and Jana Vander Woude and husband Rick of Waco; five grandchildren: Jennifer Fierro and husband Ricky, Julie Smith, Jeff, Michael and Kevin Vander Woude; one great-grandchild, Nicholas Fierro; and one brother, Lee M. Robertson of Longview.
Visitation is Tuesday, August 10, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home on Judson Road in Longview. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
