Leland Johnson's Obituary
Leland Johnson, 86, of Wright, KS died peacefully in his sleep April 3, 2009 in Longview, TX.
Born February 4, 1923 to Leonard and Lydia Unruh Johnson in Montezuma, KS, Leland was the second of seven children. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1942 and proudly served his country during WWII in the European and Pacific Theaters with the 86th Black Hawk Division of the US Army.
Leland and Margaret "Margie" Peters were married October 27, 1946 in Greensburg, KS and lived most of their married lives in Ford County on a wheat and dairy farm near Wright, KS. They moved to Longview, TX in February, 2008.
Leland is survived by his wife, Margie, four children and spouses Charlotte and Dr. Fred Ware, Ft. Calhoun, NE; Marsha and Glenn Terry, Avinger, TX; Paul and Cynthia Johnson, Bellingham, WA; Jan Ariola, Broken Arrow, OK eight grandchildren Andrea & Nick Ware, Richard & Casey Terry, Julie, Laurie, & Travis Ariola, Graham Johnson great-grandchild Leland James Johnson; and three siblings Milton Johnson, Yucaipa, CA, Earl Johnson, Dodge City, KS, and Anna Lee Smith, Dinuba, CA He was preceded in death by grandson Benjamin Ware, son-in-law Hub Ariola, brother Lavern Johnson, and sisters Edna Isaac and Elda Remple.
Leland was a long-standing and active member of the First Missionary Church, Dodge City, KS and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend to many. His memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April, 25th at the First Missionary Church with visitation following in the churchs Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at the Fort Dodge Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be given to the First Missionary Church.
