Burial will follow in Gum Springs Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Wilson passed away Tuesday morning at her home in Longview. Mrs. Wilson was born on August 30, 1905 in Longview, Texas to John and Nancy Wilson. She was the youngest of four children. She was a lifelong resident of the Gum Springs community in Harrison County. She and her husband, Archie L. Wilson, owned and operated Wilson Grocery in Harlingen, Texas and Ideal Cleaners on East Cotton Street in Longview for 35 years. Mrs. Wilson served as the Treasurer of the Gum Springs Cemetery Association for 42 years and served as the Treasurer of the Pearl Chapel Study Club. Her other great love was to travel; having visited some 15 European countries and most if the United States.
Lela had exuberance for life and was an incredibly special person to so many. Her elegance and charm made her a unique individual. For those of us that knew and loved Lela, we were amazed at her fortitude and happy spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and one sister.
Those left to cherish her memory are her Niece, Diane Malone and her husband Dan; great nephews and their spouses, Mike and Deanna Ford, and Tommy and Priscilla Eaker; great-great nephews, Ben Ford and Andrew and Ryan Eaker; great-great niece, Megan Ford; also by a number of cousins and a host of good friends.
The family request that memorial donations be made to the Gum Springs Cemetery Association, PO BOX 4003, Longview, Texas 75606.
