Lela Coburn Shaklee Firchau
On July 28, 1917, Lela Viola Coburn made her grand entrance into this world. It was a beautiful sunny day in Mounds, OK and the proud parents were Raymond Wesley and Daisy Elizabeth Coburn. She was the second oldest of five girls. She graduated from Hillsdale High School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader.
On July 29, 1936 she married Arthur “Art” Wayne Shaklee and together, they had 3 sons; Wesley Wayne, Wendel Roy and Richard Dean. She was a talented seamstress and the best cook, known for her homemade yeast rolls.
After Art’s death in 1980, she traveled the world and loved to show her photos of her travels. In 1996, she married Adolph Firchau. They enjoyed dancing and RV-ing in their motorhome. She loved the Dallas Cowboys, the Oklahoma Sooners, Dominoes, Politics, the Weather, and Dancing.
After Adolph’s death in 2016, she moved to White Oak to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lou Shaklee. She later re-located to Colonial Village- she called it home with her “Village People” until she waltzed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, September 12, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters, and her son, Wendel Shaklee; Art Shaklee, and Adolph Firchau.
She is survived by Wesley and Lorie Shaklee, Richard Shaklee and Lou Shaklee, daughter-in-law Denise Shaklee; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
