Lee McCord's Obituary
A celebration of the life of Lee McCord, 66, of Longview, will be 2 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Rader Funeral Homes, 1617 Judson Rd, Longview. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly encourages a donation in memory of Lee to the Beacon Hospice at Margaret?s House where he received such wonderful care Beacon Hospice Foundation, Inc. Lee was born in Portland, Indiana in 1943 to Herschel and Dorothy McCord. He received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University and worked in the automotive industry in Indiana, Michigan and Texas. He and his family moved to Longview in 1976 to take a position at Stemco in the Friction Materials Division where he remained until retiring in 2008. He holds over 20 patents in related technologies. In addition to caring for family and friends Lee was always health conscience. His exercising for wellness began with running over 35 years ago evolving from fun runs to 10K?s, to marathons, to triathlons and finally cycling. Cycling was Lee?s passion. He was very active in the Longview Bicycling Club for over 20 years and co-directed the Texas Chainring Challenge, a week-long bicycle tour across East Texas, for over a decade.
Lee was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend to all. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon McCord; and his son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Carolyn of Phoenix, AZ; and son and daughter-in-law Dan and Shawn of Austin, TX and precious grandchildren Elizabeth and Jacob also of Austin; his mother, Dorothy McCord of Shallotte, NC; his sister, Rhonda McCord of Shallotte, NC; and his brother, David McCord of Guntersville, AL. He was preceded in death by his father, Herschel McCord.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at GSMC in the ICU and Fourth Floor as well as the wonderful staff at Margaret?s House; especially nurse Betty.
