Lawrence "Larry" Lancaster's Obituary
Lawrence ‘Larry’ Lancaster, passed away on December 21st 2025 at the age of 84 surrounded by his family.
Lawrence was born to Ottis and Claudine Lancaster on June 27th 1941 on Heard land in Omaha, TX. He is preceded in death by his late wife Joyce Lancaster his brother Carson Lancaster and sister Claudia Dodd. He is survived by his wife Joan Lancaster; His brother Donny Lancaster; His daughter and son-in-law Jill and Robert Duncan; His son and daughter-in-law Chad and Sheri Lancaster; Grandchildren Alex, Grayson, Jaime and Zoie. Great grandchildren Aelin and Henry; And several nieces and nephews.
Larry graduated high school from New Diana in 1959 where he loved playing football, attended Paris Junior college then joined the US Army in 1961 and served in the 2nd Armored Division ‘Hell on Wheels’ in Munich Germany as a medical technician.
After he completed his Army commitment, he returned to the East Texas area and attended Stephen F. Austin where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. During this time, he met and married Joyce. He started his career working at General Electric in Tyler TX then spent the next 39 years working for Mother Francis hospital. This is where he got the name ‘Larry’ because one of the sisters that ran the hospital said that ‘Lawerence was just too long’. During this time they had and raised two children Jill and Chad.
While working and raising a family, he enjoyed many years of riding drills in the Sharon Temple Shrine Mounted Horse Patrol. He attended and competed in many state, national and local rodeos with the Horse Patrol, winning awards for their precision horse riding skills. He loved riding horses and going on trail rides with friends and family. He loved cars and especially was fond of his Corvettes, which Zoie referred to as ‘Papa’s racecar’. He enjoyed playing golf, country and western dancing and spending time with his family.
After being widowed for several years he met his current wife Joan through their love of playing golf. They played various courses in the East Texas area. He enjoyed painting and sketching pictures and going out dancing at every opportunity.
