LaVerne Eagan Walker's Obituary
LaVerne Eagan Walker, age 88, died peacefully Saturday, August 30 at Buckner Westminster Place in Longview, TX. She had been a resident of The Harbor for four years.
LaVerne was born October 1, 1926, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Opal and Luther Eagan. She moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1945, met and married William (Bill) Walker in 1947. They had one son, Kevin Eagan Walker. During the fifty years they lived in Shreveport, LaVerne worked at J.B. Beaird Company, SWEPCO, Brookwood Baptist Church and James Mohr and Associates. But, her greatest achievement was caring for and making a home for her family and serving her Lord, Jesus Christ.
LaVerne and Bill moved to Longview, TX in 1994 to be near their granddaughters. LaVerne was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, painting, cooking, reading, working crossword puzzles and frequenting garage and estate sales.
Survivors include her husband Bill Walker, her son and daughter-in- law, Kevin and Suzanne Walker of Longview, her granddaughters, Tessa Walker and Anna Walker, her sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Kenny Callaway of El Dorado, Catherine and Ken Bush of Bossier City, Martha Finklea of Bossier City, Charles and Dorothy Walker of Doyline, and numerous nieces and nephews.
LaVerne was predeceased by her mother Opal Eagan Johnson, father, Luther Eagan, and brother and sister in law, Jimmy and Joyce Walker.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, TX. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 3, at Rader Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Doyline, Louisiana.
The family would like to thank the Harbor staff at Buckner Westminster in Longview for the wonderful and loving care LaVerne received. Extra special thanks go to Charlotte Wise for extending her love and care beyond LaVerne to include Bill Walker and the entire family.
