Larry "Hood" Howard
Larry Wayne Howard, 70, of Longview, passed away Tuesday July 29, 2008 as a result of pancreatic cancer. Larry was born August 22, 1937 in Orange, Texas, the son of Cecil Webster and Ina Mae Howard. His family moved to Longview where he met his wife, Carolyn.
He started a family and began working for L.E. Myers & Co., Caddo Construction, and finished his career with Eastman Kodak as a Maintenance General Supervisor. He retired at 56 with 37 years of service.
In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing and motorcycle riding, Later on in life
He spent much of his time caring for the many animals and livestock on their small farm. He was a skilled craftsman with the ability to build or repair almost anything. He never paid or asked anyone to do something he could do for himself.
He helped raise his grandchildren and was always available and anxious to help his children with anything they needed.
Larry was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Texas Rifle Association. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Masonic Lodge and Elmira Chapel Presbyterian Church in Spring Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn, a brother Joel Mac of Longview, a son and daughter-in-law, Matt & Joni of Longview, a daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Rick McDaniel of McKinney, three grandchildren, Jake, Devin & Holly; a great-granddaughter, True, uncle, W. E. Vaughan and wife Wanda, aunt Lois Riley Strawn and her son Leonard Riley, Jr.
Larry was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his favorite dog Oscar, Go with God Gramps.
Memorial services and Masonic Last Rites will be held at Two O'clock pm Saturday August 2, 2008 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Road with Leonard Riley, Jr. officiating.
The family request that in Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House or any charity or organization of choice.
