Larry Gene Cooper's Obituary
Larry Gene Cooper was born October 8, 1949 in Athens, Texas. He passed from this world into the arms of the Lord on July 26, 2021 after a brief battle with Covid 19 and it's complications. Larry attended the first grade at Athens Elementary School then moved to Monahans, Texas in 1957 and graduated from Monahans High School in 1968. He attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1968 until 1971 studying Political Science. Larry became a certified welder and did oilfield work for several years before moving to the Dallas area and working in the Lumber Yard business for several years. He moved to Longview, Texas in 1992 and served as General Manager of Newcastle Builders in Longview until 2008 when he went to work for TNT Crane as Yard Manager until disabled by a stroke in August 2014.
Larry's greatest loves in life were his church, his friends and most of all his family. Prior to his stroke he always enjoyed his time with his friends at Oak Forest Country Club and doing work for his church, Calvary Baptist of Longview. Larry was married briefly in 1988 and 1989 but had no children. He was preceded in death by his Father Denzil R. Cooper of Monahans and his Mother Thelma G. Cooper of Longview. He is survived by his brother Ray Cooper and his wife Cindy of Longview, five nieces and nephews, Tiffany Sadler of Waco, TX, Natalie Cooper of Carrollton, TX, Darren Cooper of Robinson, TX, Jake Cooper of Union Grove, TX and Will Cooper of Longview, TX, as well as six great nieces and nephews.
Will Rogers always said he "Never met a man he didn't like" and it could be said about Larry that, "Nobody ever met Larry that didn't like him."
There will be a Celebration of Life for Larry at 1:00PM, Saturday July 31 at the Calvary Baptist Church, Longview youth facility. Social Distancing and Face Masks are recommended.
