Lamerle Modisette's Obituary
Jimmie Lamerle Modisette, age 88 of Longview, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 3, 2017. She spent the last days of her life surrounded by her family and friends whom she loved so dearly.
Lamerle was born on February 20, 1928 in Melrose, Texas to Jimmie and Theo Dean. She moved to Longview in 1940. Lamerle graduated from Longview High School and attended Kilgore College where she was one of the first Rangerettes. She loved to tell anyone she met that she was once a Rangerette and would always offer to show you that famous high kick!
Lamerle lived all of the rest of her life in Longview, Texas where she was a homemaker and an amazing mother to her four children. Lamerle would agree, as would her children, that being a mother was her greatest accomplishment. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she served as a greeter. Being a greeter was just where she belonged as she loved meeting people and welcoming them to Church with her sweet smile and spirit. She was a loyal member of FBC and loved her church family for many years. She had a true servant’s heart all of her life volunteering at the hospital, meals on wheels just to mention a few. After her children were grown she worked at Longview High School. She retired from LISD where she touched and impacted countless students across the many years she was there. In her later years while living in Assisted Living, she was crowned the 2013 East Texas Silver Citizen Queen. When introduced, she again offered to show that famous high kick!
Lamerle married Van Modisette in 1989 and they spent several happy years together traveling, playing golf and many games of cards or dominoes. They most enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. Each of her grandchildren have special memories of staying with Mema and times spent with her. She loved attending their sporting events or church musicals and she was by far, their biggest fan. Mema always welcomed the new babies with a song of patty cake and she loved to sing to them, no matter how old they were! Mema truly embodied the meaning of being a grandmother to her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lamerle is survived by her children, Dick and Zanetta McDaniel of Longview, Mark and Jamie McDaniel of New Diana, Pam and John Mayfield of Longview and Vicki and Bobby Evans of Katy. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren Alicia, Wesley, Whitney, Christopher, Logan, Emily, Trevor, Spencer and Ryan and 11 great grandchildren and 1 sister Louise James of Gonzales, Louisiana and several nieces and nephews.
Lamerle was preceded in death by her father Jimmie Dean and her mother Theo Dean Rulfs, her brother Roy Joe Dean, her husband Van Modisette and her precious baby grandson Zachary Evans.
Lamerle will be missed by all of her family, friends and everyone that met her. She brightened the world and made it a better place with her sweet smile and kind & loving heart. Heaven has gained a precious angel and we know that she is up there with Jesus, singing, dancing and possibly showing that famous high kick.
